Think On These Thing(k)s

One thing we do not think

Photo by Glen Carrie on Unsplash

we do not pause to think
what am I going to think
about it, any random thing,
we just think
think, think, and think
think anything
this is simply not autonomous living
but compulsively being-
at the mercy of thinking
we go wherever it’s taking-
us without reflecting
as if spending-
time without the itching
to do thinking
is somehow devastating.

“When you run after your thoughts, you are like a dog chasing a stick: every time a stick is thrown, you run after it. Instead, be like a lion who, rather than chasing after the stick, turns to face the thrower. One only throws a stick at a lion once.” — Milarepa
